Otakar II of Bohemia (circa 1233-1278) was an important king of Bohemia from the Přemyslid dynasty.
Born around 1233, Otakar II was the son of Wenceslaus I of Bohemia, and he ascended to the throne in 1253, succeeding his father.
During his reign, he managed to significantly expand the territories of Bohemia. He conquered Styria, Carinthia, Carniola, and part of Austria, becoming one of the most powerful rulers in Central Europe.
He founded many cities and promoted the economic and cultural development of his lands.
Otakar II is remembered as an energetic and ambitious ruler who transformed Bohemia into a regional power.
His death and the subsequent defeat of his supporters allowed the Habsburgs to become the dominant dynasty in Central Europe.
