Venceslao I (circa 907 - 935) was the Duke of Bohemia. He is venerated as a saint by the Catholic and Orthodox Churches. As a Christian educator, he strove to Christianize Bohemia alongside German missionary monks. Facing opposition from pagan nobility, he was assassinated by his brother Boleslaus in 935. His death and sanctity are commemorated on September 28, celebrated as the Day of the Czech Republic. A national patron, his body rests in Prague, in the Cathedral of Saint Vitus.
