Antoine Watteau was an 18th-century French painter, considered one of the great masters of the Rococo period. He was born in 1684 in Valenciennes and moved to Paris in search of artistic opportunities. Watteau specialized in genre painting, portraying scenes of everyday life, composed with a delicate and elegant style. His works are characterized by masterful use of color and the representation of characters with melancholic and enigmatic expressions. He was one of the main exponents of the artistic movement called "fête galante," which blended scenes of aristocracy with elements of mythology and theater.
