Edouard Chimot

Edouard Chimot is primarily known as an engraver, illustrator, and painter, but in Italy, he is especially famous for designing Villa Lysis in Capri. Born in 1880 and died in 1959, Chimot is most renowned for his work in graphic arts and his book illustrations, particularly during the interwar period. He was a key figure in the revival of the art of engraving in France and led several prominent publishing houses, including Les Éditions d'Art Devambez.

Throughout his career, Chimot focused mainly on illustrating books of an erotic and decadent nature, using a style that reflected the post-war tensions and melancholies. His works are characterized by a strong sense of color and a tendency to portray fragile and tormented human figures.
