The Doni Tondo by Michelangelo is a circular painting located in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. It is Michelangelo's only intact panel painting created entirely by his own hand. The work was commissioned by Angelo Doni, a wealthy banker, and features the Holy Family with St. John. The tondo shape, popular in early 16th-century Florentine painting, was often used in wealthy families' residences to celebrate their lineage. The painting includes a unique interpretation by Michelangelo, including a group of naked men in the background, which art critics often interpret as an allusion to the pagan world before the coming of Christ.
