Domenico Gagini was an Italian sculptor during the late Renaissance and Mannerism. He was born in 1420 in Genoa and came from a family of sculptors. He mainly worked in Sicily, and his style is characterized by being full of details, with great technical skill, and an emphasis on the realistic expression of figures. Gagini specialized in religious sculpture and collaborated on several important works, such as the Cathedral of Palermo and the Palatine Chapel. His sculptures are characterized by the emotiveness and delicacy in the faces, as well as the beauty of the sculpted garments.
