Hi, my name’s Rick, and I’m your personal guide. Along with MyWoWo, I’d like to welcome you to the wonderful flavors of Ravenna's cuisine.

The cuisine of Ravenna is typical of the entire Romagna Riviera and is characterized by numerous seafood dishes, among which there is never a shortage of tasty fritto misto, a nice plate of mussels or delicious grilled fish.

Thinking of Romagna immediately brings to mind the undisputed star of the table: the piadina! This simple and tasty traditional flatbread is made with a just a few ingredients: water, flour and lard or olive oil. Here in Ravenna you can alternatively find crescione, a pocket made from piadina dough and stuffed with ingredients of your choice.

The combinations are endless: a few slices of prosciutto or a local cheese such as squacquerone are among the most classic, but vegetarian and sweet versions are also delicious.

Popular dishes include various types of fresh pasta such as cappelletti, small ravioli filled with ricotta and Parmesan cheese, or prepared with other tasty fillings, all of which are truly delicious. In Ravenna, the most common version is the one topped with meat sauce, but a more delicate version with meat broth is also common.

If you love pasta, you must try strozzapreti, seasoned in a variety of ways, or passatelli, made with stale bread, eggs, parmesan cheese, flavored with nutmeg and cooked in broth.

As for meat, in Ravenna you can discover the intense flavor of castrato, meat of male sheep, marinated with salt, garlic and rosemary, then barbecued or grilled.

And to finish it off we need a good dessert!

There are several traditional ones and one of the oldest is Bustrengo, made from flour, citrus peels, dried fruit, raisins, honey and wine. Alternatively, there is the classic ciambella, a simple sweet made with just a few wholesome ingredients.

If you want to taste a creamy and soft dessert, I suggest latte brulè, a kind of panna cotta made with fresh milk and lots of egg yolks.

An interesting fact: In Italy, a pastry is called a "ciambella" if it is round with a hole in the center. But the Romagna ciambella is an exception: it is not round and has no hole. On the other hand, it is really delicious!

What else can I say? Enjoy your meal!
