Gian Lorenzo Bernini (1598-1680) was a prominent sculptor and architect of the Baroque Rome. He began his artistic career at an early age and became famous for his ability to imitate ancient sculpture and for his talent in portraiture. He created a cycle of sculptures for Prince Scipione Borghese, which were highly acclaimed and became an unsurpassed model of Baroque sculpture. Among his most famous works is the sculptural group representing Aeneas carrying his father and son, as well as the "Rape of Proserpina," where one can appreciate the artist's skill in capturing details and emotion in his sculptures.
