Dario Luigi Angelo Fo (Sangiano, March 24, 1926 – Milan, October 13, 2016) was a versatile Italian artist, playwright, actor, director, writer, author, illustrator, painter, set designer, activist, and comedian. Famous for his theatrical works employing the comedic elements of Italian commedia dell'arte and which have been successful worldwide. A key figure in the theatrical field, he performed roles as an actor, director, set designer, and impresario in his own company. Known for his political and social satire in his works, Fo, along with his wife Franca Rame, was involved in the Militant Red Aid. In 1997, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, recognized for his inspiration from medieval jesters in ridiculing authority and elevating the dignity of the oppressed.
