Vittorio Amedeo II di Savoia, also known as Vittorio Amedeo Francesco di Savoia, was the sovereign of the State of Savoy from 1675 to 1730. During his extensive reign, he radically transformed Savoyard politics, liberating it from foreign influences such as France and Spain. His reign marked a period of proud independence, highlighted, for example, by the heroic episode of the Siege of Turin. His skillful political strategy ultimately earned him the royal crown, becoming King of Sicily from 1713 to 1720 and King of Sardinia from 1720 to 1730. He was nicknamed the Savoy Fox.
