The Palacio de Velázquez in El Retiro Park is another beautiful exhibition space for contemporary art managed by the Centro de Arte Reína Sofía. It was built in 1883 for a national exhibition and features an impressive iron and glass roof, surrounded by sky-blue ceramic tiles. Fun fact: in May 1936, a historical event took place when a crowd of senators and delegates gathered there to elect the President of the Republic.
