WATER PARKS, Aquaventure

The Aquaventure water park, on the artificial island of Palm Jumeirah, is divided into a number of different areas, including Dolphin Bay, Sea Lion Point, Shark Lagoon, and the Lost Chambers Aquarium, the area equipped with slides and pools and a 700-meter-long private beach.

In Dolphin Bay, you can watch the dolphins up close and find out a lot about them. If you’re an experienced swimmer, you can even take a swim with them.

There’s plenty to learn about the inhabitants of Sea Lion Point too, and if you’re lucky, you might even be able to pet one.

If you fancy feeding and interacting with the cownose rays, also known as eagle rays, you’ll find them waiting for you in the shallow waters of the Shark Lagoon.

Lovers of the underwater realm will enjoy the Lost Chambers Aquarium, home to some 65,000 sea creatures, where you can go scuba diving or snorkeling amid thousands of colorful fish and sharks. If you’re not familiar with either of these activities, you might like to walk on the bottom of the aquarium with a special underwater helmet.

Those of you who prefer a more relaxing activity can book a yoga session in a room with walls looking onto the aquarium: it doesn’t get much more relaxing than that! 

History and adventure fans will definitely not be disappointed in learning all about the legendary lost city of Atlantis.

Aquaventure offers such a wide range of entertainment that you’ll be spoilt for choice: you can whizz over the park 20 meters from the ground on the Atlantean Flyer cableway, the longest in the Middle East, or hurtle down the slides of the Tower of Poseidon. Or, what about a thrilling descent with a scary finish? Try the “Shark Attack” slide, which ends up splashing straight into a shark-infested lagoon!

If you have a more relaxing time in mind, an alternative to the long beach is the quiet, secluded Neptune Retreat, furnished with a full range of comforts.

An interesting fact: the nearby Atlantis Resort boasts two “underwater” suites looking onto the Ambassador Lagoon, the huge sea aquarium that’s part of the complex. If you have trouble winding down after an exciting day, you can count sharks instead of sheep!
