Hi, my name’s Scott, and I’m your personal guide. Along with MyWoWo, I’d like to welcome you to one of the Wonders of the World: the Bass Museum of Art.
The Bass Museum is the most prestigious art museum in Miami Beach.
It was founded in 1964, thanks to the donation of the private collection of John and Johanna Bass, Jewish immigrants from Vienna who resided here in Miami Beach.
This striking building was erected on a plot of land that once belonged to John Collins, one of the founders of the city, after whom Collins Avenue was named. You may be interested to know that it was a grandson of John Collins, Russell Pancoast, who designed the building that houses the museum in the early 1930s. Of the original Art Deco style, there are Gustav Bohland’s splendid bas-reliefs above the entrances to the museum.
