The tragedy of the Space Shuttle Challenger on January 28, 1986, caused the death of 7 crew members. A failure in the O-ring of the right SRB caused the structural collapse of the external tank during launch. On board was Christa McAuliffe, a teacher who was going to give the first lesson from space. The resumption of manned flights occurred more than two years later, with the STS-26 mission of the Space Shuttle Discovery in September 1988.
