Henry Bacon (1866-1924) was a prominent American architect, influenced by neoclassicism. He participated in archaeological expeditions in Greece and Asia Minor. His masterpiece was the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, characterized by the Doric order. He also designed the World War Memorial at Yale University. He died of cancer in New York. The Liberty ship SS Henry Bacon was dedicated to him, sunk by the Germans during World War II, being the last American civilian ship affected.
