Jan Brokoff was a prominent Czech sculptor of the 18th century. He was born in 1652 in the city of Kutná Hora, Bohemia, and died in 1718 in Prague. Brokoff belonged to a family of sculptors, and together with his younger brother, Michael Brokoff, he created numerous Baroque artworks in Prague and its surroundings. His sculptures are known for their dynamism and expressiveness, and can be found in churches and buildings throughout the city. Jan Brokoff is especially famous for his involvement in the construction of the Holy Trinity Column in the Old Town Square of Prague, considered one of the masterpieces of Baroque sculpture in Europe.
