Ladislav Jan Saloun

Ladislav Jan Šaloun (1870 – 1946) was a Czech sculptor of the Art Nouveau movement. Born in Prague, he studied under Tomáš Seidan and Bohuslav Schnirch, although he also followed the influence of Auguste Rodin's style. Admitted to the Czech Academy of Sciences in 1912, he became a civic artistic advisor in Prague in 1927 and a National Artist in 1946. Šaloun dedicated 15 years to the Monument to Jan Hus in Prague's Old Town (1901-1915) and designed the Šaloun Villa, a proto-modernist example in Vinohrady. He also created monuments for Hořice (1911–1913) and Libáň (1925), and collaborated with Osvald Polívka on the Municipal House (1911).
