French cartographer and geographer, Gilles Robert de Vaugondy (1688-1766), known for the Atlas Universel (1758), served as a court geographer. His son Didier (1723-1784) continued the family legacy and collaborated on the Encyclopédie. The 1786 Atlas Universel, a complete work of the Vaugondys, consists of 117 maps, including 13 historical and 102 geographical maps, revealing precision and depth in the treatment of geographical advancements and cartographic sources.
