The Palazzo Barbaja in Naples was the residence of Domenico Barbaja, a famous 19th-century theatrical entrepreneur. For a brief period, it was the home of Gioachino Rossini, who composed Otello there. Built in the 16th century and renovated in the neoclassical style in the second half of the 18th century, it features a sober facade with smooth piperno masonry on the ground floor, a simple portal, and stucco decorations. The upper floors are delineated by giant Ionic pilasters.
