Mariano Smiriglio (1561–1636), a Sicilian artist, transitioned between Mannerism and Baroque styles. As the architect of the Senate, he contributed to the Quattro Canti and designed the picturesque Porta Felice. He carried out public works such as the Arsenal and fountains. He was a pioneer in the decoration with combined marbles, influencing Sicilian Baroque architecture. Smiriglio, the author of many churches in Palermo, is recognized for the reliquary of Santa Rosalia.
