Juan Manuel Fernández Pacheco y Zúñiga (1650-1725), a Spanish nobleman, served as viceroy of the kingdoms of Navarre, Aragon, Catalonia, Sicily, and Naples. He distinguished himself as one of the most educated men in Spain. In 1713, along with other intellectuals, he founded the Royal Spanish Academy, tasked with establishing the linguistic norms of Spanish, such as grammar and spelling, and served as its director until his death in 1725. He promoted the first dictionary of the Spanish language.
