Putti Fountain

The Putti Fountain, an artistic jewel in Carrara marble, embellishes the entrance to the Miracle Square in Pisa. Built between 1746 and 1765 by Giuseppe Vaccà and Giovanni Antonio Cybei, it features a pedestal with acanthus leaf motifs and two tritons battling a sea monster. In 1763, Antonio Cybei sculpted three cherubs holding the shields of Pisa and the Opera del Duomo. Over time, the fountain has faced proposals for modification but has resisted, preserving its symbolic significance and representation of childhood. Its revaluation in the 19th century and its increasing visibility through postcards and social media have solidified it as an icon in the urban landscape of Pisa.
