PATIO OF THE EVANGELISTS

The Patio of the Evangelists in Escorial is a beautiful cloister known for its statues of the four evangelists - Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. It features extensive frescoes of sacred subjects by Pellegrino Tibaldi, an Italian architect and painter of the Counter-Reformation. Additionally, the grand staircase in this area is decorated with a Baroque fresco celebrating the glory of the Spanish monarchy by Luca Giordano. This cloister offers a serene contrast to the surrounding gray stone walls of Escorial.
